Today we had to create a storyboard which had different types of shots and explain the narrative in the shots and the actions.
Above is my story board which is based on my game design document. This story board is based on the introduction to my game. it has an extreme wide shot which shows the location, setting the scene. Then the second scene shows the scientist explaining what you need to do in order for you to go back in time. In the second scene, I am using a medium shot. For my third scene I will use a medium shot which then goes into a close shot on the doors. Scene four shows the main character entering the teleporter. This is shown with a wide shot. Scene five shows the teleporter entering a black hole and this will also be shown through a wide shot. Scene six will use a wide shot which shows the main character looking out to the castle and village.
There are many different shots that can be used to show the characters and the scenery.
Wide shot - This is normal used as an opening shot to set the scene.
Medium shot - This shot is used for showing actions and sometimes showing two or more characters.
Close-up shot - This shot is used when a character is speaking or important scenes like a hand picking up a gun.
Extreme wide shot - This is used to show large areas or a character walking in the distance.
Extreme close-up shot - Shows real detail into an object or facial expressions.
Down shot - This shot normally shows a character alone or defenceless.
Up shot - This shot makes a character seem powerful.
One shot - This type of shot only shows one character in the shot.
Two shot - This shot shows two characters in the shot.
Three shot - This shots shows three characters in the shot.
To create this image I took my storyboard and scanned it into the computer. I then took it into Photoshop and used the magic wand tool to leave me with only lines. I the brought the brightness down and increased the contrast. After this I then inserted a new layer and used the polygonal lasso tool to allow me to put shading into my image. I completed my image, but I discovered there was a lot blue and red dots on my image. To make this dots disappear, I got the magic wand tool, selected the lines and used a brush to paint over these dots. Most of these dots disappeared but I was still left with some. I then highlighted one of the dots with the magic wand and went to select and clicked on similar to highlight all of these dots. I was then able to use the brush tool to paint over these dots and I was left with a piece which I am very happy with.
